Editing

I am currently editing my portfolio for a website...and it is stressful...editing my photos defines who I am as a photographer I am afraid I may be showing weakness while I edit...like if my edit is too loose I start to repeat myself...but too tight maybe I don't show enough of my style. It is difficult...I want to display my skills and versatility so I can get the jobs I want or any jobs for that matter but I don't want to look "run of the mill"

I made this photo on my way home from Utah on Friday using a modified holga lens to fit my Canon, you can get them at holgamods.com for like 40 dollars I think...the lenses do need some work though the focus is weird and it the lens doesn't lock onto the body making focus even more difficult than it already is.

Family Action

MIa is skeptical.

My brother Logan.

My other niece Mia.

Every morning when I would wake up I would walk up stairs and see my grandpa sitting at the end of the couch.

My sister and her daughter Ellie it was great to spend time with my nieces.

My grandma is an amazing piano player.

Deciding what color sweater to wear.

My grandparents asked me to take some photos of them and I was happy to do it.

This is my Grandpa Ray.
Just got back from a trip to Utah to visit family...my extended family I stayed at my grandparents house most the time. I went riding on Thursday at Solitude with my uncle Jon and I bought a new car...new to me a 1990 Honda Civic Wagon it is sweet I drove it from Salt Lake City to Eagle on one tank of gas! I am sure I will be posting photos shortly.

Hut Trip

Here are some photos from this weeks hut trip...it was a great and challenging experience. We started with a 5.5 mile hike up to the hut we stayed for two nights I think I got four runs in while I was there but every single run was worth the work. I hope to do this again real soon.

Long Time

Its been a long time since my last post I have been taking some ok photos. I just got back from a hut trip it was intense and awesome it was a 5.5 mile hike to the cabin with a ton of gear on my back and it was my first time on a split board trying to hike up a mountain. Today I feel tired I got back to work to read my emails. On Tuesday's cover the photo was cropped really badly by the copy desk like so badly you can't even make any sense of the photo. I was already on my way to the hut but I received these emails...
"Preston,
I know you're gonna get some grief over today's cover shot. Just had to be one to rib ya.
What happened?
Visually yours,
Jack"

"just wanted to let you know that the last two pictures that you have on the front page yesterday and today have got to be the two worst photos I have ever seen. neither of them make any sense (nice picture of the top of someone's head! and the out of focus American flag!) two quality photos!! maybe i should be sending this to your editor, because obviously he thought this was good front page material!! or maybe this is why you guys work for a small non-quality paper!!"

"Hey preston,
Just curious about your picture is that your head or someone elses? Is that twelve gauges head or yours? Sorry no ill will meant just having a little laugh at your expense.

Your faithful and vigilant fans
We love the Daily"

So there you go the most emails I have ever received in one day about one picture and I had no control over what happened to it...think about how it feels to have everyone in the entire county to see what you did for work the day before always watching and judging every picture you ever publish there are going to be some good days and some really bad days, and everyone gets to see both.
